As Muslims we are required to respect all religions, be it people who are Christians, Jewish, Hindu e.tc.

So i’m really surprised at the pictures published in the newspaper, and also of their false nature. Maybe people should read about Prophet Muhummmad peace be upon him, and realise that he was a mercy to all mankind.

Attacking the prophet peace be upon him by drawing such pictures is attacking Muslims directly.

We dont draw pictures of other prophets like Abraham, Moses, Jesus, infact we respect them, and would never think to do such drawings.

Not as christians, muslims or any other religion, but as civilized people we should respect all religions! I agree with you on that! What is at stake here isn’t the mercifullness or kindness of Prophet Muhammad, but the liberty that people have in Europe to express their opinion.

You must bear in mind, that the drawings were not meant as disrespectful but merely as an expression of an opinion. Despite not agreeing with me on this point, you surely must agree that nothing justifys the attacks on nordic embassys, no religion, no drawings, absolutely nothing!

Your laws, your beliefs are not mine, as mine are not yours, so why does the Islamic community act as they are above everything and everyone? Respect if you want to be respected first.

“As Muslims we are required to respect all religions, be it people who are Christians, Jewish, Hindu”

A ‘requirement’ does not make it so.

I’ve lived in Muslim countries for the past decade where Christian crosses are ‘required’ to be sold under under the counter like Playboy magazines. Where Christmas has been outlawed overnight with all the decorations torn down. Where Priests are turned away at the border. Where no Jews are allowed to enter. So please, do not tell me about ‘requirements’.

There are two cultures involved, so lets look to the west. In the west it is not unusual for Christ, God, and other religious icons to be represented in comic form. And not always in a good light. ‘Freedom of the press’.

It’s my opinion they are saying the Muslim ‘icon’ isn’t any different.

Ok, they’ve made their point …

My personal opinion? Freedom of the press is a good thing, but those who abuse this freedom by crossing a deep line should be held accountable in some way, if only in their hearts.

People died. More people will die. The press knows this.

Backing up here … I have personal freedoms but I do not take advantage due to cultural differences. I’m an adult, not a teen needing to get a rise out of grownups.

And as a westerner in a Muslim country I know I have the freedom to wear what I want. Short, skimpy, whatever. Do I? No, because I know I may run into the sister, mother, grandmother of a dear loved Muslim friend of mine, and it would cause personal pain and embarassement.

Also as a westerner in a Muslim country I make sure there is no smell of cooking bacon in my home when a visit is expected as it would cause unpleasantness to my friends. I do not drink alcohol in front of my Muslim friends. Or most anyway, as some do drink, and more than I do.

In return, my Muslim friends know that even though I detest Bush and his policies, to concentrate on him in conversation would cause me pain and embarrassment.

Do you see where I’m going here? Some spouting ‘Freedom of the press’ have abused the system. And it’s not just ‘good manners’ I’m talking about.

Those exercising ‘freedom of the press’ have forgotten that there are real people with deeply felt beliefs on the other end. Sure, they made their point and perhaps the point SHOULD have been made if just to highlight that no, Muslims are not ’special’ and should not be thought of as such … but what I’m asking is … what the feck of a point are the others making?

People are dying. People are dying just so a paper can sell more copies. And THAT is what makes me sick.
