Radiohead to music industry: “Screw you!”

This is yesterdays news, but still pretty exciting:
Radiohead are set for a shock release of their new album ‘In Rainbows’ on October 10.
(…)
The band surprised fans by announcing that they will release their seventh studio record next week as a download, with a limited-edition physical version of the record out before Christmas on December 2.
(…)
Plus as you can name your own price tell us how much you will play for the new Radiohead album.

So go ahead a “buy” it here.
Radiohead can do this because they have money and a fan base that supports them no matter what, no band has gotten rich from selling records online. Still, I think it’s a gutsy move.

“no band has gotten rich from selling records online”
As a matter of fact I believe that they might have more revenue with this model, since they have completely cut out the middle man…

True, but let’s face it, only fans will buy the record at this time, they wont start selling big until they release records on the common channels (shops, iTunes).
